Passage for this week: 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
Resource: Pray The Word Podcast by David Platt
How to use this resource: The questions below should be read after you and your family have spent time listening to the resource, and after you have had time to read through the passage carefully and slowly. Following your family time discussion (using the questions below, or your own questions regarding this text), close in prayer and ask your kids how you can be praying for them and let them know how they can be praying for you as parents.
Family Devotional Question For This Week:
1. What stands out to you the most from reading this passage? What did you learn that is new to you from this passage? What did you learn that caused you to remember something you’ve known, or what has been reinforced from reading this passage?
2.How can we seek to be reconcilers in Christ Jesus, just as God has reconciled us through His Son as verses 18-19 state?
(Potential answers: Think about how you at one time were an enemy of God (Ephesians 2:1-13) and God revealed His Son Jesus Christ to you and saved you according to His power and perfect will. Paul wants us to think about this great reconciliation we’ve benefited from (which we cannot claim any bit of effort for – this was solely the act of God) only to go and be reconcilers for those who were in the same state as we were before God revealed Himself to us!)
3.What is an ambassador and why are we to act as ambassadors for Christ?
(Potential answers: An ambassador is someone acting as a representative on behalf of another, which describes what Christians are supposed to be in this world – representatives of Jesus Christ and the truth, love and mercy of God! Through our actions and words to others, we must always be aware that we are representatives of God who is making His appeal to those who don’t yet trust or know Him. Too many who claim to be christians have misunderstood or have forsaken this great truth and responsibility we have as believers in Christ to be His representatives revealing the Son of God to a world that doesn’t yet know its greatest and eternal needs are only found in Him.)
Prayer Prompts For This Week:
– Pray for a boldness to, like David mentioned, implore those around us to reconcile them to God through presenting them with the Gospel message.
– Pray for God to speak through you this week to a friend, coworker, neighbor or acquaintance to invite them to church or our youth group so that they can hear and believe the Gospel!
– Continue to pray for one another and write down or remember the requests of each person. Either have one person pray over each request, or delegate those prayer requests so that each person prays for something or someone specific.
